Wow.... what an amazing time the past 19 months have been. Cindy and I found out we were expecting and were excited to hear we were having a girl. Shortly after finding out it was a girl, we were at a boutique and found this adorable pair of shoes and the style name was "Bentley". The moment Cindy saw Bentley she fell in love with the name and from that day on she was Bentley Jo. Her due date to arrive was April 19, 2011.
We had so much fun planning and waiting for her. We procrastinated a bit getting her room decorated but I think that was because I was too busy shopping. The walls were the last thing done, but her closet was full of adorable stuff just waiting for her.
Cindy had a great pregnancy with no sickness and she was a trooper the entire time. Peak season at UPS was the the best it had ever been. She was really lucky....
Adie, Trudy and Ethan put on an open house shower for us in February and it was a great time. Friends from California came in and Cindy's parents were able to make it. We are so blessed to have such a great family and great friends. We got so many fun things for Bentley. I think it finally hit us that she was on her way when we got home and had to unload the the gifts and put them away. Everything was ready and waiting for her.
At 36 weeks Cindy started having weekly stress tests to keep an eye on Bentley due to Cindy's age. Everything went great up to the 40th week. Her fluid was dropping and coming back up but nothing out of the norm. At 39 weeks Cindy was so excited to go to the doctor and schedule a time to be induced the next week. She was ready and starting to get really restless. Besides that her ankles were now the same size as her knees. It was a sad sad look on her face when the doctor told her she could not start her without a medical reason on her first baby. The soonest she could start her was one week after her due date. During that week Cindy did two tests on back to back days due to the fluid being low and ensuring it came back up. On the 19th Dr. Ponder called to tell Cindy that she thought that due to the changes in her fluid that she could start her. She advised her that we could come in over the next couple days and start the process. Cindy told Dr. Ponder she did not think her water broke but that she was losing some type of fluid. Dr. Ponder advised us to come in and get checked and that she was on call and would meet us. Within 5 minutes of being in the hospital room they did a test that showed it was amniotic fluid and we were there to stay. They said her water broke at the top so it was not an obvious break but the trickle was definitely amniotic fluid. They gave Cindy a pill to help soften her cervix through the night and she progressed very quickly. By 6 AM she was dilated to a 5 and they started the epidural. By noon Cindy was pushing and pushed for over 2 hours. At 2:00 PM the decision was made to do a c-section. Wow, it took about a whole 30 minutes and the entire process was over. It was amazing to watch and I will never forget the experience.
At 2:20 PM on April 20, 2011 Miss Bentley Jo Walsh-Holcomb came into the world. She was an amazing 10 lbs 10 oz and 23 inches long. She was absolutely beautiful.
Since her arrival we have adjusted well and love spending every minute we have with her. Unfortunately, it has taken me 9 months to get to the blog that my friend had ready for me way before she was even born. Today's post will get us caught up through today along with some pictures along the way and then I hope to update monthly. I hope that those of you that do not see the 3 of us often enjoy the updates and pictures.
Since Bentley was born we have done trips to Moab, (when she was 5 weeks old ) Jackson Hole, Idaho, Cancun and a week long trip through Colorado in the fifth wheel. She has been so good on each trip. We have experienced our first holidays with her with the last big one being Christmas. It was so fun even at 8 months to spend Christmas morning with her.
At 9 months she is crawling all over and has taken her first steps. She will be walking any day now. She is always telling everyone hi and waving. When you tell her bye she waves back and says hi. Cindy and I always feel like we don't get enough time with her both working. We really do look forward to every minute with her. My favorite time with her is the mornings and when we get to rock her to sleep every night. It is hard for me to put her down and not just let her sleep in my arms.
Next week we will be taking our first trip to California to stay at Aunt Jill and Aunt Amy's house. We have a long weekend planned of stuff we love to do while we are there.
